Terms of service
Last updated October 12, 2026
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and the operators of Spellseeker and govern your access to and use of spellseeker.app, its applications, features, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, the privacy policy, and applicable policies. If you do not agree, do not use Spellseeker.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Spellseeker. If the law where you live requires you to be older, or requires consent from a parent or legal guardian, you may use the Service only after satisfying those requirements. You may not use the Service if doing so would violate applicable law or if we have previously suspended or terminated your access.
What Spellseeker is
Spellseeker is an unofficial fan project for searching Magic: The Gathering cards, building decks, exploring Commander recommendations, practicing decks, and playing paper Magic remotely with camera, microphone, and card-recognition tools. It is not a tournament authority, rules engine, marketplace, or emergency communications service. It is early software and may change, become unavailable, or contain errors.
Limited license
Subject to these Terms, Spellseeker grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to access and use the Service for its intended purpose. No right, title, or interest in the Service or its software is transferred to you. We reserve every right not expressly granted. We may limit or revoke this license as described below.
Not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast
Spellseeker is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro, Discord, or Scryfall. Magic: The Gathering and related names and marks are property of Wizards of the Coast. Card data and images are © Wizards of the Coast and are sourced from Scryfall. See the Wizards Fan Content Policy. Scryfall data remains subject to Scryfall’s API guidelines.
Accounts and access credentials
You may use guest play or create an optional account through Discord. You are responsible for activity associated with your account, for keeping your Discord account and devices secure, and for promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized access. Guest display names are not verified. Room codes, invitations, access tokens, and similar credentials are confidential access keys; do not publish, sell, transfer, or use them to enter a table without permission.
Acceptable use and prohibited conduct
You may not use, or help another person use, the Service to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, court order, contract, or third-party right.
- Harass, threaten, stalk, discriminate against, exploit, impersonate, or deceive another person.
- Share illegal, infringing, sexually exploitative, malicious, or unlawfully private content.
- Spam users; manipulate reviews, results, reports, invitations, or presence; or create misleading activity.
- Guess, harvest, buy, sell, or scrape room codes, accounts, deck data, personal data, or access credentials.
- Access another person’s account, room, media, captures, messages, or data without authorization.
- Probe, scan, penetration-test, reverse engineer, or attempt to defeat authentication, authorization, rate limits, moderation, privacy, or security controls, except where applicable law expressly permits the activity despite this restriction.
- Introduce malware, harmful code, corrupted data, or any mechanism intended to interfere with the Service or another user’s device.
- Overload, disrupt, degrade, or impose an unreasonable burden on hosting, signaling, TURN, recognition, storage, APIs, or other infrastructure.
- Use the Service to develop or benchmark a competing product through bulk extraction or systematic replication of Spellseeker content, design, data, or functionality.
Automated access
Except through a public interface that Spellseeker expressly documents for that use, or with our prior written permission, you may not use any robot, spider, scraper, crawler, headless browser, automated agent, script, or other automated device, process, or means to access, monitor, copy, index, test, or extract any part of the Service. You may not disguise automation as ordinary user traffic, rotate accounts or network addresses to avoid limits, or use manual processes for bulk copying. Ordinary web browsers, assistive technologies, and features built into Spellseeker for their intended use are permitted.
Third-party services and deck imports
Spellseeker may link to or interoperate with services operated by others. Their terms, privacy policies, availability, and technical restrictions apply independently. You may import only deck lists and other data you have the right to use. You may not use Spellseeker to bypass another service’s access controls or restrictions. We may disable an integration, require a user-provided export, remove imported material, or stop honoring a source URL at any time. We are not responsible for third-party services, content, transactions, or changes.
Recognition components
Local card recognition uses the Cornelius 2.12 corner model (AGPL-3.0) and ONNX Runtime (MIT). The source links and attribution, model license, and runtime license are available with the distributed components. Camera captures stay in your browser during this inference.
Your content
“Your Content” includes information you submit or make available through Spellseeker, such as display names, avatars, deck labels and lists, game names, messages, reviews, reports, and optional recognition evidence. You retain any ownership rights you have in Your Content. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to provide it and that it complies with these Terms.
You grant Spellseeker a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, display, and modify Your Content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, moderate, maintain, and improve the Service. This license permits our infrastructure providers to process Your Content for those same purposes. It ends when the content is deleted, except for transient copies, lawful retention, security records, backups, and material incorporated into de-identified or aggregated data. We may reject, limit, preserve, or remove content when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, comply with law, or operate the Service.
Camera, microphone, and card captures
When you join as a player, you may grant camera and microphone access. Other people in your room can see and hear what you choose to share. Peers can request a still image from your camera for card identification; that request is visible to you. Do not point your camera at anything you are not authorized and willing to share. Do not record, rebroadcast, identify, or retain another person or their surroundings without any consent required by law.
Public games and host controls
Public games are discoverable and may be watched by visitors. Private games are accessible through authorized invitations or room credentials. Hosts may start or end games, propose results, remove participants, room-mute visitors, and restart a table. Host status does not authorize harassment, deceptive results, unauthorized recording, or interference with another person’s account or device.
Deck recommendations and card information
Inclusion recommendations evaluate card mechanics and the selected commander’s plan. Scores are suggestions, not win rates, tournament rulings, or guarantees. Card rules, legality, prices, artwork and availability may be incomplete or out of date. Verify information before buying cards or relying on a deck’s legality. Deck playtesting is manual and does not automatically enforce Magic rules.
Recognition, statistics, and feedback
Card identification and gameplay statistics are best-effort and can be wrong. Optional wrong-card reports may upload card crops and diagnostics; content-free timing metrics may be recorded separately. Strong card results may be shared ephemerally within a room as verified hints. If you submit ideas or feedback, you grant Spellseeker a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free right to use them without restriction or compensation. See the privacy policyfor details about data handling.
Enforcement, suspension, and termination
We may investigate suspected violations and may restrict, suspend, or terminate access; remove content; invalidate credentials; block devices, accounts, or network addresses; preserve relevant records; or refer conduct to appropriate authorities. We may act without advance notice when reasonably necessary to protect users, the Service, third parties, or legal compliance. We may also discontinue any part of the Service. You may stop using Spellseeker at any time and may request account deletion by contacting the operators through the contact channel below.
Availability and changes to the Service
The Service depends on third parties, including hosting, authentication, signaling, TURN, storage, and card-data providers. We do not guarantee availability, latency, compatibility, security, data preservation, recognition accuracy, or that defects will be corrected. Features may be added, removed, suspended, or rate-limited at any time. You are responsible for maintaining copies of information you need.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Spellseeker is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, quiet enjoyment, accuracy, and security. We do not warrant the conduct, identity, or content of any user or third party. Your use of the Service and interaction with other users are at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Spellseeker and its operators, contributors, service providers, agents, and representatives will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, consequential, or punitive damages; loss of data, access, gameplay, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business opportunity; or conduct of other users or third parties, arising from or related to the Service, even if advised that such loss was possible. To the fullest extent permitted by law, their total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed US $100. These limitations apply to every theory of liability and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. Rights that cannot lawfully be limited remain unaffected.
Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Spellseeker and its operators, contributors, service providers, agents, and representatives from claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, and reasonable costs and legal fees arising from Your Content, your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of another person’s rights. We may assume control of the defense of a matter subject to indemnification, and you agree to cooperate with that defense.
Time limit for claims
To the extent permitted by law, any claim arising from or relating to the Service or these Terms must be filed within one year after the event giving rise to the claim; otherwise, the claim is permanently barred.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms by posting the revised version and changing the “Last updated” date. Changes apply prospectively when posted unless a later effective date is stated. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to a revision, you must stop using the Service.
General terms
These Terms, the privacy policy, and any policies expressly incorporated into them are the entire agreement concerning the Service. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain effective. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with an organizational change or transfer of the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including licenses, enforcement rights, disclaimers, liability limitations, indemnification, and claim limits—will survive.
